Provence
Acceuil’s mission is provide visitors with a broad range of information
about the Vaucluse. This has naturally led us to meet a large number of
local people providing a wide variety of services. Together, we realised
that the services we provide to visitors could be enhanced if we could
work together in some way. As a result, we launched the Carte d’Amis. The
Carte d’Amis or Friendship Card is our way of showing our appreciation
to people who have chosen to visit our wonderful region. This initiative
brings together a variety of like-minded service providers offering discounts and other
incentives to all Carte d’Amis holders. Your
accommodation host will be delighted to supply you with the Carte d’Amis
and a list of its participating partners before you arrive. As
well as offering incentives, the Carte d’Amis also serves as a guide to
a range of activities in the region – including restaurants, museums,
shops and, for those of you looking to understand more about the
region’s wines there are guide tours to vineyards and wineries.
Information about participating partners is detailed below. We sincerely hope that the Carte d’Amis will make your holiday just that little bit more special.
Wine
Uncovered Wine Tours Let
Wine Uncovered be your guide through some of the most beautiful vineyards
in France, as you follow the grape’s progress, step by step, from
vineyard to bottle. Wine
Uncovered offers half-day guided visits for small groups to the vineyards
and wineries of selected wine Domaines in Gigondas, Vaqueras, Rasteau,
Sablet and Séguret.
Solving
the Mysteries of Terroir When
talking about French wine it is impossible to ignore the notion of
“terroir”, a concept that is shrouded in mystery and is responsible
for much of the mystique surrounding French wine. Yet it is widely
believed that the influence of terroir explains many of the differences
between wines produced in France and wines produced in the rest of the
world. So
what exactly is “terroir” and how does it influence wine? Wine
Uncovered gets to grips with this elusive concept and demonstrates, in a
fun and accessible way, how different terroir, grape varieties,
vine-growing and winemaking methods determine the characteristics and
quality of the wines that you taste.
During
each guided visit you will: ·
Visit stunning vineyards and learn the essentials of
vine-growing; ·
Appreciate the concept of “terroir” and its importance
to French wines; ·
Appreciate the differences between the Rhone grape
varieties; ·
Visit winemaking cellars and learn the essentials of
winemaking; ·
Gain a better understanding of the “appellation” system
and French wine labelling; ·
Taste some of the finest wines of Provence. Wine
Uncovered’s guided visits appeal to all wine drinkers, from those who
simply enjoy a glass from time to time, to wine enthusiasts seeking to
broaden their understanding. Each
visit is led by Olivier Hickman, a qualified wine professional with
significant hands-on experience in all aspects of the wine industry –
from vine-growing to winemaking to wine importing and trading. Half
French, Olivier lived in London for most of his life, but has recently
returned to his Provencal roots and now lives permanently in Sablet.

Nougaterie
Silvain Fréres The
economically testing period during the early 1990s was the signal for the
Silvain brothers to quit the insecurity of agriculture and begin their own
nougaterie. Many of the ingredients used are home-grown, such as almonds,
cherries, quince-pears, apricots, apples and pears. Between these trees
or in the lavender fields are the beehives for the honey which is
then used for the nougat or sold in the farm-shop. Now in 2006 the
nougaterie has grown into a large family business in which parents,
children and in-laws are employed full-time. The
shop is located in St. Didier where it is a joy to see the stalled out
confectionary and one will be sure to make a purchase. The assortment has
grown out since the first nougat was prepared to include not only the
traditional nougat but jams, honey, biscuits fruit, bonbons and ‘pâtes’
de fruits. The
processes involved in the preparation of these products can be watched at
leisure on a large screen in the air-conditioned video-hall. Next
to this hall is a patio where one can order tea or coffee. This summer the
family Silvain will begin with the sale of handmade ice cream, a terrace
will be opened between 20.00 and 23.00 for the chance to enjoy a delicious
ice-cream. Specially
for Friendship card holders there is the chance to watch the preparation of
the nougat in the main kitchen, and of course to try the warm nougat A
